This product is based on NASA Engineering. The big science at play here is 99.9% pure aluminum blocks heat. Regular types of attic insulation slow down heat from getting into your home, but it gets through the traditional insulation. Traditional insulation uses an "R" value which stands for Resistance Value. It resists heat transfer for "X" minutes per inch. Multi Layer Insulation with layers of 99.9% aluminum BLOCKS heat from getting in the home. Our product is 3 layers of 99.9% aluminum and 2 layers of Mylar. 99.9% aluminum blocks 97% of radiant heat. That's why it's 3 layers. No heat, at all, gets through. The product is in layers like this : aluminum/mylar/aluminum/mylar/aluminum.
Benefits of Ultra Shield Comfort Defender
First off it blocks heat. It is used in conjunction with your existing insulation. Your blow in or batted insulation does not need to be removed. Ours lays out over it. By blocking heat from entering the home the energy bill comes down. If no heat gets in the home then the ac doesn't need to cool the home.
Second is with no heat getting through the ceiling you eliminate hot and cold spots. The environment in the home levels out. No more burning hot in the living room while everyone is freezing in the bedrooms.
Third is that it cuts down on contaminants entering the home. With the MLI laid over the depleted insulation it will no longer disintegrate into dust and get in the home. Bugs and stuff can no longer get in through the small openings around vents and light fixtures.

What is Ultra Shield ReflecTech?
Ultra Shield ReflecTech is a combination of two fields of science. We use thermal blocking science from both the aeronautics and aerospace industries. Closed cell spray foam is a product of the aeronautics industry. It was developed by chemists to install in planes when we started commercial flight. Radiant heat reflecting 99.9% aluminum was invented by NASA engineers when we started sending people outside of the earth's atmosphere. Ultra Shield is Closed cell spry foam covered on both sides by a sheet of 99.9% aluminum.
Why does 99.9% aluminum make a difference?
NASA didn't invent Aluminum foil. But what they knew was that aluminum foil blocked a little bit of heat. So it stands to reason that as you purify it you will get more and more heat blockage. At it's most pure form, it blocks 97% of radiant heat that comes in contact with it. If you tried to cook a potato in 99.9% aluminum it would never cook!
Why choose Multi Layer Insulation over traditional insulation products?
Traditional Insulation like Fiberglass and Cellulose work by ABSORBING heat. These traditional forms of insulation use RESISTANCE. The idea with traditional insulation is to have so much of it in your attic that heat can not make it through all of the material. The issue with this is that the 160°F makes it through 16" of traditional insulation in about 4 hours! Multi Layer Insulation uses NASA Technology to BLOCK or REFLECT this heat from the attic floor. When this heat is BLOCKED, it can not get in your home. When it does not get in your home then your AC does not have to remove it. This means your energy bill DROPS SIGNIFICANTLY. And because the AC is not running you are extending the life of your AC.
How long does Multi Layer Insulation last?
Our Multi Layer Insulation has a LIFETIME WARRANTY. The technology is 99.9% aluminum. 99.9% does not degrade.
If my fiberglass insulation has to be topped off every few years, will I need to top my MLI off every few years as well?
No. You will never have to reinsulate again. Installing MLI in your home is a "One and Done" process. You will never need to worry about insulating again.
This looks a lot like "Radiant Barrier" that goes directly on the roof. Does Ultra Shield go on the roof?
No. Ultra Shield is not installed on the roof. It is installed on the floor of the attic. It goes right over the top of your existing insulation. Shingles are designed for heat to come in through the top and out through the bottom. If that extreme heat is reflected directly back through the bottom of the shingle is will very quickly destroy the shingles. Roofing a home is a very expensive task.
